Shooting and explosions leaves Many dead in Nigeria after Boko Haram attacks Maiduguri




Shooting and explosions in Maiduguri by extremists with rocket-propelled grenades and multiple suicide bombers left many dead and scores injured

The Boko Haram militants entered the town of Dawari in Maiduguri on foot around 6pm yesterday,armed with AK 47s and rocket propelled launchers and started shooting.The attack was repelled by soldiers of the 7 Division.

The Militants fired indiscriminately from the back of three trucks in the village of Dawari on the outskirts of Maiduguri, which is the birthplace of Boko Haram with soldiers of the 7th Division engaging them in a rapid gun battle.
An eye witness said and "as people were fleeing a woman ran into the area area shouting “Boko Haram, Boko Haram”. When people gathered, she then detonated herself".
A rocket-propelled grenade then exploded, setting grass thatched huts on fire.But as soon as the fire started,a second woman then blew herself up too. 
The latest causalities are,a village chief, 10 of his children and others were killed in Dawari, 
Soldiers of the 7th Division laid ambush on the terrorists suspected routes and intercepted them in three different locations approaching the city” .
The area is close to Giwa barracks, a major military base that has been attacked several times in the past by the extremists. In January 2014, Boko Haram attacked the base and freed hundreds of detainees. Nigeria’s military is accused of killing thousands of detainees there, by human rights groups.(Amnesty International)
Few days ago the the President ( Mr Buhari) said he has technically fulfilled the promise he made to defeat Boko Haram by December 31,2015.

It would be recalled that the deadly Boko Haram group also struck Kimba village in Borno state on Christmas Day evening, killing at least 14 residents and torching their homes.
